From the President...

July 2010

Welcome to the new Club year! With the AGM done & dusted for another year, I am pleased to say that we have a few more new Committee members, beginning with John Clements as Secretary. John is a good friend of Jim Howden and has attended a few social events of ours over the years, but more recently has been attending meetings and decided to take the job on. The other new Committee member nominated on the night was Peter Jarrett who has been a member of the club for many years along with his son Steven. Since the AGM, new member Michael Caporaso has indicated he would like to help the club any way he can, but due to work commitments he won’t be able to attend all meetings. With Anthony staying on as Treasurer, Ben as Social Secretary and Nick moving to Vice President, you can see that there is a more than capable Committee for the coming year. Add to that Cassie volunteering to be the Editor (with John still printing it), I am confident we are in for a good year!

Last month we had a run to Swan Reach which was very successful. Although the weather was very doubtful in the morning and rain was heavy at times through the Hills, eventually it cleared up and we made our way through Mannum, followed the river for a while then crossed it with 2 punt loads of VWs before arriving at the Swan Reach Hotel, where the weather was quite pleasant – not cold at all!! Thanks to Paul for organising this run for us and thanks to the Volks Enthusiasts members for joining in.

As we are in the middle of Winter, there is a lot of motorsport around at the moment, with Becky competing in SA’s round of the Australian Rally Championship recently. Unfortunately, she landed heavily after a jump at a railway crossing and damaged the front end – including radiator, and failed to finish. There were a few members out officiating, braving the cold – I’m sure I saw some very upset brass monkeys on Sunday morning when the temperature at Mt. Pleasant was below zero! As I type this report, I have just returned from a Khanacross held at Lanac Park where Henny (in a Honda), Adam & I represented the club. Not very well I’m afraid! None of us did anything wrong, it was just that our times were not very competitive on a very cold & wet day. Back to Tailem Bend in two weeks time for our event, where the Beetle normally does well, so I’m looking forward to that…….

On Saturday August 7th, we are having a Go-Kart evening at Richmond. The details are in this magazine, so contact Ben if you want to know any more or would like to register your interest.

The Club’s annual Dinner is scheduled for 4th September. This year it will be held at Winston’s in Pirie Street. Club member, Ben Bruce is the Manager and after attending the Strata Bar the past 2 years when he was Manager there, I’m sure the meal, price and service will be just as good. The details of the time, address and more importantly the menu appear in this magazine as well. Hope you can find the date free in your calendar.

See you soon,

Mal
